The Queen attended unveiling of the The Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede on Saturday, 17 October 1953, four months after her coronation. Here are two photographs of her visit.

The first is an informal snap taken by a member of the audience. This was either Gertie Dushman or her sister-in-law Rose Dushman, who were there with David Dushman’s only child Barbara to remember David – brother, husband, and father – lost without trace in March 1944.
The second image is much more formal, and shows the Queen with the honour guard.
