These photographs of the lighting of the candles for all the war graves in Den Berg, Texel, were sent to us by Jan Nieuwenhuis, who together with Bram van Dijk (very sadly, no longer with us) began this poignant and spectacular annual ceremony of commemoration and gratitude to the fallen.

Amongst the graves are those of Leslie Laver, my father’s rear gunner, and Leslie’s last crew, the Steven crew, who were lost over Texel in January 1944. See Remembering Leslie Laver & the Steven Crew
