The attack on Friedrichshafen on the night of 27/28 April 1944 led to the loss of one of the RAF’s true heroes, Wing Commander Guy Lockhart, DSO, DFC and Bar. He had had an extraordinary career as a pilot, including with 138 (Special Duties) Squadron in the hazardous role of landing enemy agents (called ‘Joes’) in France.
