Rickinson Crew Memorial

A very fine monument to the Rickinson crew was recently unveiled at Eemnes, a small village in the centre of the Netherlands.

The Rickinson crew of 83 Squadron, stationed at RAF Wyton, were lost on the Duisburg operation of 12/13 May 1943. The crew were:

Pilot: F/Lt Leslie Arthur Rickinson, DFC
F/Sgt Thomas Robert Cairns
F/Sgt Stanley Arthur Hathaway
F/Sgt David Barclay Bourns
P/O William Lionel Gibbs, RAAF
F/Lt Horace D M Ransome, RAAF
F/Sgt Horace Plant

The only survivor was Horace Ransome, who became a prisoner of war.

As always, we are most grateful to the Dutch people for their devoted remembrance of the lost bomber boys.

With thanks to Ingrid Verhoeven-Kuijpers.
