Black Thursday Memorial

There is really excellent news about the long anticipated Black Thursday memorial. This memorial stone was most generously provided by Benoît Howson, who designed it in conjunction with Dr Jennie Mack Gray.

It is a very great honour that this memorial will be sited permanently in the Memorial Garden at RAF Wyton, the Pathfinders’.main airfield. Next month, on 16 December 2024, there will be a dedication ceremony at 13:00 by the station’s Padre. A number of Service personnel will be attending.

As RAF Wyton is a high-security station, if any of our readers wish to attend the ceremony they should apply for a pass as soon as possible – we cannot arrange visits on your behalf as RAF Wyton is a military base and visit requests have to be officially logged.

To apply for a pass, please complete the online VISIT REQUEST FORM. Please note, the wording of the form is for admission to the Heritage Centre, but in this instance it will apply to the memorial ceremony as well.

The following security provisions apply.

* The Wyton base operates at a high security level. Access is at the discretion of the station commander and is dependent on security checks. Visits may be cancelled without notice for service reasons.

* All visitors must bring some form of photo identification. Visitors may be subject to searches and will be escorted at all times. Photography is strictly prohibited except inside the Heritage Centre building.

* The Wyton base requires 14 working days notice of any non-UK nationals wishing to visit and they must provide their date and place of birth, passport number and expiry date.
